I broke my French Press Friday. Ugh. I’ve made it to Sunday because Debbie was here over the weekend and motivated enough to get coffee. I didn’t take care of my Coffee Making Problem Saturday because hey – if it isn’t an IMMEDIATE issue I’m a big fan of procrastination…and I’m trying Very Hard to NOT spend money.
But today is Sunday – I have Ruby and my niece Sammy and packing them up to get coffee is nuts. On top of all that, I’m in Creatively Frugal Mode. Debbie’s visit motivated me to Take Charge, BUCK UP, and Make Things Happen.
So after whipping up breakfast for the two little ones, I address my Coffee Situation. Surely a creative gal like myself can get coffee from beans with all of the useless things in this kitchen. I mean, it isn’t like I’m out in the woods, or trying to make coffee with a rock.
Much scrambling and scrapping and I come up with:
1. Large frothing pitcher
2. A very large green plastic glass
3. Two coffee cups, just aching to be filled
4. A super fine cheese grater thing from IKEA that I’ve never used because why would I want my cheese that fine?
Water boiling, I grind some beans (coarse), put it all in the Jumbo Frothing Pitcher, let it sit with a plate over the top, and then filter it – using the Super Fine Cheese Grater. Not a bit of spillage, but uhm…the cup isn’t big enough. Ergh.
Move to cup number two.
Filter again, for good measure.
Cream, splenda, voila!
