Crazy weekend. Just crazy. Crazy week, actually. School is out, new babysitters (excellent!), Union Gap Old Town Days Idol Contests, blown spark plugs, and the perpetual feeling that I am forgetting something Really Important.
I started A Freebie a Day yesterday and now it is Day number TWO and I am still on target. Why A Freebie a Day? I mean, why set yourself up for failure like that? Sigh. If you could see my hard drive(s) you’d like, TOTALLY UNDERSTAND. Sheesh. I have almost 600 gigs of “stuff”. I can literally watch my poor lil’ external drive smoke under the utter strain of it all. So I’m cleaning my digital house.
The last few months I have been in a design state that involves making TONS of paper, TONS of “stuff” and then deciding just as I get ready to wrap it up that I no longer like it. Ergh. Not sure what is going on there, but I can’t bear to delete all these nearly complete designs and thus…A Freebie a Day. I’m optimistic that I’ll last to Day 7. If I were gutsy I’d say, “What do you think?” – but I’m not…shhhh!
That Idol Contest! It wasn’t the most organized event – on either side – ours or the contest folks. I found out about it, vaguely, on Monday. By Tuesday 6pm Hayley was singing “Love Song” at the Ahtanum Youth Park. Thursday she was doing something else at the Ahtanum Barn (as I fondly recalled a Blaze Brigade show at said Barn…), and then I find out that she had to be at yet another location Saturday 8am. On a Saturday? EIGHT AM?
Someone turned the light on and EIGHT AM was moved to TEN AM. Better. And as we toodled our way to the park, I pulled into Rite Aid for some Aleve because I was like, TOTALLY out of chocolate. Sigh. Jump back into the car at 9:45 – oh the pressure! we are running late! – and BOOM!
Yeah. You heard me. BOOM!
Not exactly the kinda noise your car ought to be making. The accompanying wisps of smoke weren’t fabulous reassurances that all was well either. Ergh. Where’s my coffee? Oh yeah, we are running late….
I call up Dad and make a mental note to join Triple A. Dad arrives and says he is going to start the car. I step WAY BACK in case the entire thing blows. Thank the Car Gods Above – it was not a blown engine or some terrible dire thing – just a blown spark plug. Blown. Whoosh. Three spark plugs – it doesn’t sound so good. Ask me how I know.
And that was my weekend. ACTION, full-on. Then lots of Fake Sun (hidden behind clouds) and mugginess waiting for Hayley to perform. Hayley’s ability to just get up there and sing still amazes me. Where does that kind of self-confidence come from? Not cocky, just confident. Dang… John & Mika hung out with me, in the mugginess, and I tried to get photos of them together. One moving target is difficult enough, but two? The light was amazing…and while I didn’t get great shots of them together, I did get some very nice ones of Mika.
And what were they watching? This tiny little thing and a pie eating contest. Really.
Not a bad weekend. Actually, a very good weekend. Just a weird weekend. I mean, I KNOW I am forgetting something….Right?
