With One Deep Breath and One Big Step

My obsession with Word Press has turned this site into an insane hodge podge of Bad User Interface Design. Just so you know, I’m working on it :)
Pandora is doling out the Killers and the Strokes left and right. I’ve been investing serious time into my station - retrodiva’s lil’ twee heart. Yes, I know. Very Dumb Name. But it will be a fabulous station - someday….

For those of you that aren’t familiar with Pandora - egads! You can create your own radio station using “seeds” - songs or artists you like. Pandora fantastically and magically plays music that it thinks you might like. I have found soooo many new bands, groups, songs, etc. Very Cool.

And can I just say - kids these days - they have it so easy. They can access music with a bit of Google and a few clicks. I remember living in Seattle in 1989, pouring over Goldmine, looking for imports that I just HAD TO HAVE. Three am phone calls from the UK - “we’ve got that 7″ limited edition blah blah for 5 pounds”. Quickly trying to do the math - how many dollars to the pound? - while half-asleep. Sigh.

Finding new music was an endeavor way back when. I cheated and simply stalked The Record Store Clerk With Fabulous Taste. High Fidelity? Yes, I organized my records for fun. Sorted chronologically. Sorted by label. Sorted by genre. Sorted alphabetically when I was feeling lazy.

Now I’m becoming nostalgic for card catalogs - ledger cards - the rolodex…Maybe that’s the secret behind that steampunk thing…

(Two hours later….)

And this is where this post ends…as I have been sucked into the Internet. While writing the dribble above, hoping to bump into some sort of Answer to Life, I thought - “I should find a good link to something steampunk for those who don’t know what I’m talking about…”.

Silly Tracy. I found this amazing Victorian RV. I mean, wow. Here’s a summary post and here is a complete post with details and more details. Did I say wow? Which led to Tracy, Google, and even more renovated buses turned homes - setting loose that free bird dream more than a few of us have fluttering inside…

And I still didn’t explain Steampunk… sigh.

    Hi Tracy!
That crazy Swede callin again. ;)
No, I didn’t get what Steampunk is…. you lost me at punk caus’ that’s what I’ve allways been. I remember hangning at the library listning at the old records of famous swedish and brittish punkband…. I didn’t have the money to bye them myself. Set the alarm to the middle of night to record the late night punkshow on the radio, cause that was the time they hide the show.
Was soo happy when the new recordstore opened in a small town nearby… they hade a little corner with punkrecords and I bought my first Exploited there.
Jelouse at the youth? Hmm… Sure. But in someway not. It was a fun time to grow up in.

I remember going to Tower Records on The Ave for new release Tuesdays, standing in line with friends just before midnight to get the newest music CDs!

That seems so primitive now, ode to a la carte and all the cool places for music on the internet. Thanks for sharing Pandora with me R-Diva!
